Diversity & Representation

Overall Score

4.1/10

Fair

Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Limited

The film lacks visible non-cisnormative identities or same-sex intimacy. The narrative focuses on a survivalist framework involving a pregnant woman and male survivors.

Gender Representation

Fair

Alice serves as a central protagonist, and her pregnancy adds biological complexity to the plot. However, it remains unclear if the film subverts gender hierarchies or uses her character for tension.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Minimal

There is insufficient information regarding the racial or ethnic composition of the cast. The character archetypes do not provide enough detail to assess diversity in this area.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Fair

The post-apocalyptic setting deconstructs traditional institutions like religion and state authority. The story focuses on systemic collapse and survival amidst a breakdown of social order.

Disability Representation

Fair

The rabies virus introduces themes of neurological impairment and loss of bodily autonomy. The film may rely on physical impairment as a horror conceit rather than nuanced representation.

Strengths

  • Alice provides a central female perspective that moves beyond passive tropes.
  • The pregnancy adds significant biological and social complexity to the survival narrative.

Areas for Improvement

  • The film lacks visible LGBTQ+ representation or non-cisnormative identities.
  • There is no clear evidence of racial or ethnic diversity among the characters.
  • The depiction of impairment appears tied to horror tropes rather than nuanced agency.

AI Analysis

Anger of the Dead follows conventional horror-drama tropes, centering its stakes on a pregnant protagonist navigating a cannibalistic plague. While the female lead provides a foundation for representation, the film lacks intersectional depth. The narrative focuses heavily on survival and the breakdown of societal structures. This genre-driven approach prioritizes tension and the threat of contagion over diverse character identities or systemic subversion. Ultimately, the film presents a standard survivalist story. Without clear evidence of racial diversity or LGBTQ+ presence, it remains a conventional entry within the post-apocalyptic genre.
