Gender Representation

Good

The narrative focuses on a female-centric domestic sphere. The protagonists demonstrate agency by proactively navigating biological and economic crises, moving away from traditional patriarchal family models.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Minimal

There is insufficient information regarding the ethnic composition of the cast or the roommate character. Consequently, a definitive score cannot be provided.

Good

The story challenges the Western ideal of the nuclear family through communal living arrangements. It explores how economic precarity forces a deconstruction of traditional, private family units.

AI Analysis

Between Us is a character-driven drama that explores the intersection of queer domesticity and economic instability. By centering the narrative on Elodie and Laetitia, the film moves away from traditional family structures to examine how marginalized identities navigate biological and financial hurdles. The film succeeds in presenting a non-traditional family model, using communal living as a response to capitalist pressures. This approach offers a sophisticated look at how modern identities are constructed through both intimacy and shared adversity. However, the lack of information regarding racial and ethnic diversity prevents a complete assessment of the film's inclusivity. While the core themes are strong, the broader social landscape of the film remains unclear.
