Diversity & Representation

Overall Score

3.1/10

Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Limited

The film lacks LGBTQ+ characters or narratives that engage with non-cisnormative identities. It follows a traditional structure that does not seek to expand queer visibility.

Gender Representation

Limited

The story prioritizes male-centric struggles and personal isolation. While the setting implies a social gathering, there is little evidence of female agency or subverted gender hierarchies.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Limited

The 1930s period setting leans toward the homogeneous social structures typical of the era. There is no evidence of non-white agency or intentional intersectional casting.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Fair

The film explores economic decay and the decline of the American Midwest. It uses religious themes within a small-town atmosphere rather than a secular narrative.

Disability Representation

Minimal

There is no representation of visible or invisible disabilities. The focus on demonic possession functions more as a metaphor for madness than a nuanced portrayal of disability.

Strengths

  • Offers a moderate critique of economic decay and the decline of the American Midwest.
  • Introduces subtle anti-capitalist undertones through the lens of industrial loss.

Areas for Improvement

  • Lacks intentionality in disrupting traditional social hierarchies or providing intersectional representation.
  • Fails to include diverse identities, including LGBTQ+, racial, or disability-based perspectives.
  • Relies on conventional character archetypes and male-centric narrative struggles.

AI Analysis

Here Comes Hell operates as a conventional horror-comedy that relies heavily on established genre tropes. The narrative focuses on localized struggles, such as personal demons and demonic possession, rather than systemic social critique. While the film touches on socioeconomic instability and the decay of community structures, it lacks the intentionality needed to disrupt traditional hierarchies. The setting remains rooted in a historically specific, likely homogeneous social framework. Ultimately, the film functions as a traditional genre piece. It prioritizes atmosphere and period-specific tropes over meaningful intersectional representation or diverse character perspectives.
