Marie, a film producer, returns to her native Russia to find her birth parents. She quickly learns they are dead, and she has inherited their long-empty farmhouse. At the farm, she meets Nicolai, who claims to be her twin brother. Events take a terrifying turn when the two spot a pair of ghastly doppelgangers and the house itself seems to propel them toward a fate they should have met 40 years earlier.

AI Analysis
The Abandoned is a localized, character-driven horror film that prioritizes atmospheric tension and existential dread over social representation. While it features a female lead and a specific Russian setting, the narrative remains narrow in its scope. The film relies on traditional genre tropes and homogeneous lineages. It lacks the intentionality required to disrupt social hierarchies or provide intersectional perspectives, functioning instead as a study of fate and identity. Ultimately, the work is a minimalist exploration of psychological isolation that does not engage with progressive social discourse or diverse identity politics.
