The film stands out through a grounded, psychological approach to mental health. By centering the narrative on a protagonist navigating bipolar disorder, it moves beyond superficial depictions of disability toward a more authentic exploration of neurodivergence. While the character study of Clemence Miller provides a strong subversion of gendered expectations, the film's broader diversity profile is less clear. The lack of explicit information regarding LGBTQ+ identities or racial composition prevents a higher score in those categories. Ultimately, the work succeeds as a character-driven drama that prioritizes internal struggle and the deconstruction of traditional social and familial success over broad-spectrum representation.
Category Breakdown
The film does not explicitly confirm any LGBTQ+ characters or specific romantic orientations. It focuses on damaged relationships and social deconstruction without overt non-straight representations.
Clemence Miller serves as a complex female protagonist who challenges the stereotype of the perfect female lead. Her character is defined by volatility and emotional complexity rather than perfection.
The suburban setting suggests a traditional Western environment, but the cast's racial and ethnic composition remains unverified. There is no specific evidence of actively leading characters of color.
The story disrupts conventional celebrations of upward mobility by focusing on a protagonist who has dropped out of school. It offers a nuanced, cynical view of domestic structures.
The film centers on a character living with bipolar disorder, treating the condition as an intrinsic part of her life. This avoids 'inspiration porn' in favor of a realistic neurodivergent depiction.

Official Synopsis
Inspired by true events, college sophomore Clemence Miller is coming home to the suburbs and a bedroom in her family's basement. After dropping out of school with a newly diagnosed mental illness, she now faces the challenges of bipolar disorder, the responsibilities of adulthood, and her damaged relationships with family and friends. Clemence struggles to figure out what it means to heal without driving everyone around her… well, crazy. As if reckoning with everything and everyone she has taken for granted wasn’t enough, Clemence has to wrestle with the thought that on top of it all, she might also just have a really bad personality.
