Deadly Detour sticks closely to traditional low-budget horror clichés. The narrative prioritizes genre-driven survival and a descent into depravity over exploring identity or social issues. The film lacks intentional storytelling that reflects multiple aspects of identity, focusing instead on a group of friends facing a catastrophic outcome due to their own actions. This approach reinforces standard social hierarchies rather than challenging them. Ultimately, the production aligns with conventional genre expectations, offering little in the way of diverse representation or social commentary.
Category Breakdown

The story follows a typical survival horror structure. It relies on traditional gender stereotypes without challenging gender hierarchies or offering unique portrayals of masculinity.

Official Synopsis
When two carloads of friends were headed to Florida the only thing on their minds were sex, booze, drugs, and rock and roll. When a case of engine trouble sidelines the group in rural Maryland it begins a downward spiral into heinous acts of killing and depravity.
