The film uses homophobia as a thematic driver for the killer's motivations. It functions as a catalyst for violence rather than a nuanced exploration of queer identity or agency.

Gender Representation

Limited

The narrative centers on a killer driven by hatred against women. This framework positions female characters as passive victims defined by their vulnerability to male violence.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Limited

The film appears to center on a traditional Western crime framework. There is no evidence of a diverse or non-Anglo-Saxon majority cast within the narrative.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Strengths

  • The film provides a direct exploration of the historical Zodiac killer phenomenon through a genre-focused lens.

Areas for Improvement

  • The narrative relies on harmful tropes that position women and LGBTQ+ individuals as victims rather than agents.
  • The film lacks racial and ethnic diversity, defaulting to a homogeneous Western crime framework.
  • There is a missed opportunity to provide nuanced character development beyond the killer's hate-driven motives.

AI Analysis

Curse of the Zodiac operates strictly within the confines of traditional horror and crime tropes. The film relies on historical violence and hate-driven motives to drive its plot, rather than exploring complex social identities. The narrative architecture reinforces existing hierarchies by focusing on the victimization of women and the use of homophobia as a motive for terror. This approach prioritizes genre-driven suspense over meaningful representation or the subversion of social norms. Ultimately, the film lacks intersectional agency. It functions as a standard thriller that utilizes marginalized identities as plot devices for violence rather than as fully realized characters.
