Kleber Mendonça Filho delivers a minimalist, atmospheric study that prioritizes sensory resonance over sociopolitical commentary. The film succeeds in offering a localized, non-Western perspective that avoids many traditional Hollywood clichés by focusing on the mundane and the subjective. However, the work lacks multi-layered character development that addresses diverse identities. It functions more as a temporal exploration of human connection than a vehicle for systemic critique or identity-based narrative structure.
Category Breakdown
The film explores a romantic connection between two lovers in different locations. However, it does not focus specifically on queer political struggles or non-cisgender identities.
Characters appear as equals within their emotional landscapes through an observational lens. The film lacks overt subversion of traditional masculine or feminine clichés.
The Recife setting provides a naturalistic, non-Anglo-centric backdrop. Casting reflects the organic demographic textures of the region rather than homogeneous Western norms.
The narrative favors a secular, temporal exploration of existence. It avoids religious or patriotic didacticism, focusing instead on a postmodern, slice-of-life experience.
There are no visible or invisible disabilities portrayed as central to the character arcs or the film's thematic exploration.

Official Synopsis
A small-scale romantic love story, shot with a digital camera in black & white and in a documentary style. We follow the conversation between two lovers, each on a different side of the world; he is in Recife, she is in Kyiv. On one side is dark, on the other light, but both experience the same emotions and hence feel nearness and contact.
